Andrew has undertaken several projects for us over a period of four years together with his business partner and their company Raecox Construction.  Initially small in value at 50,000 and subsequently up to half a Million pounds.

The works were complex in nature and involved all the building trades and specialist subcontractors together with the demands of capricious private clients. The issues included complex steel framing and difficult below ground structures.  A high standard of finish and the most efficient work was achieved in all cases.

Andy was able to plan projects ahead and to foresee the critical path of the works in order to achieve efficient and best working practice.  He also undertook to reconstruct a section of our offices; a commercial application including steel framing, composite insulated roof panelling and telecom and data installations. The same standard of finish was attained.

We are confident in recommending Andy to manage projects where his high manual skill set and his project management abilities will combine with his inherent motivation and the best personal standards.

2012

In 2012 Andy McRae was awarded the building contract for a major extension and renovation at our holiday home at 34 Merioneth Street, Arrowtown.

The “crib” is approximately 60 years old and is made up of two working men’s huts that had been moved to the site.

We wished to keep the special character that the crib had but wanted to change it into a modern and more user friendly environment.

The work involved adding three new bedrooms and bathrooms in the character of the original crib and then opening up the existing with a new kitchen and dining/lounge area.

The work carried out by Andy and his team was excellent as he had the ability to understand what we wanted to achieve while working within a budget.

His attention to detail was fantastic and he was extremely sympathetic to matching the old with the new. The work involved strengthening the old parts of the crib, re-flooring, and adding the new building into the old.

He also ran a spreadsheet for costs that was easy to follow and understand. Any changes that were made to the original plan were discussed and agreed upon. The cost of the charges, whether positive or negative were put on the spreadsheet, so that financially you knew where you were at with your budget.

” Andy McRae has been working for me over the last two years undertaking civil work on numerous Vodafone RBI (Rural Broadband Initiative) sites around the South Island.

These sites are often in challenging and remote locations where tracks have to be formed to provide access suitable for concrete trucks, transporters and cranes. The foundations are substantial and range from 80 to 120 m3 of concrete.

A high level of accuracy is required in the positioning of hold down bolts and ducting in these foundations as well as the placement of the concrete.

I would regard Andy as one of the best contractors I have had work for me in my career. He always maintains a nice safe tidy site, has a high level of quality and is reliable and honest. When he says he’s going to be there he’s there and he gets the job done on time.

I have also seen a house that The Builders.co.nz Ltd has built in Queenstown and that has been built to a very high standard. They have a reputation as being one of the best builders in town.
