Andy McRae, Owner & Director
The Builders.co.nz Ltd Director, Andy McRae, was born in rural Southland and moved to the city of Dunedin in Otago at a young age. After finishing high school he completed an apprenticeship and spent 8 years with ABL (Amalgamated Builders Ltd) in Dunedin. Following this he moved to the UK with his wife Angela where he ran a building company in London called Raecox Construction. In 2006, after the birth of their first child, the family moved back to NZ to Arrowtown in Central Otago where Angela had spent summer holidays growing up. In June of 2006 Andy founded The Builders.co.nz Ltd and has been running and expanding the company since that time.
Andy is a Licensed Building Practitioner, with now over 20 years of building experience, who has a hands on approach to the business.
Richard Mackley, General Manager
The Builders.co.nz Ltd General Manager, Richard Mackley, was born in Wellington and raised in the city of Auckland, NZ. After completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Auckland he spent 10 years in the hotel industry moving to Queenstown during that time (2000). More recently Richard managed Queenstown’s iconic Kawarau Bungy Centre which underwent periods of significant construction during his time at the helm.
As General Manager Richard oversees a range of activities including Project Management, Sales & Marketing, Health & Safety, Human Resources and Financial Planning.
Jock Dunstan, Foreman
The Builders.co.nz Ltd Foreman, Jock Dunstan, is a good Otago Kiwi raised in Oamaru. Jock completed an apprenticeship in the late 90’s. After working in Oamaru Jock moved to the Southern Lakes working in Wanaka for a few years. From Wanaka he moved over the hill to Queenstown where he has now been working for over 10 years. He loves the Southern Lakes lifestyle especially jet boating and hunting.
Jock is a Licensed Building Practitioner with over 20 years of experience behind him.
Dave Johnston, Foreman
The Builders.co.nz Ltd Foreman Dave Johnston was born and bred in Christchurch. Obviously he’s a keen Canterbury Crusaders supporter although we’re trying to change that. He was a keen sportsman growing up playing both rugby and cricket at a good level.
His work life has predominately been in Christchurch with 2 different companies and he also spent a year working in Scotland.
Dave has been building now for over 10 years and is a Licensed Building Practitioner and an integral part of The Builders team.
Sam McKegney, Leading Hand
The Builders.co.nz Ltd Leading Hand Sam McKegney is a native of London, Ontario in Southern Canada. He completed his apprenticeship in Canada and quickly advanced to Leading Hand & Foreman roles before then running his own company for a number of years.
Sam decided to spend some time travelling and arrived in NZ where we quickly snapped him up. He has quickly proven himself within our team over the past 2 years hence his rise to a leading Hand role.
Outside of work Sam likes to explore the Queenstown area by bike or on foot to find great camping and fishing spots. He is also a keen ice hockey player and played locally in Queenstown during the 2016 winter season.
Sam has been working in construction now for over 10 years, he is level headed and brings some really strong knowledge and practical skills to our team.
Ben Singleton, Leading Hand
The Builders.co.nz Ltd Leading Hand Ben Singleton was born and bred in Nelson. He spent his initial working years around the Nelson area before eventually seeing the light and moving South to Queenstown.
Ben has been a part of The Builders team for over 2 years and has been building for over 10 years. He is a super keen Mountain Biker and will often be seen on evenings and weekends out hitting the local trails.
Bens experience is appreciated within The Builders teams and he is well respected by all his colleagues.
Other team members include a mix of certified builders who are Trade Qualified Carpenters and a number of Apprentices.
